How to Recreate the Latest Summer Makeup Trends

Only a few days left til the official calendar summer starts! Whether you’re hitting the beach or are getting ready for the party, stay up to date on the newest summer make up trends that will keep you looking fresh and feminine.

Aqua Eyes

Make a splash this summer with some hot blue shades! Keeping your eyes the focus of the whole makeup is definitely one of the 2017 summer trends. Stick to bright popping blue colors and choose one that will make your eye color stand out.

Pink Tones

Think pink! A sweep of soft, feminine pink eye shadow, blush and/or lipstick gives you fresh, healthy look. For the more classy make up choose monochromatic tones – i.e. same-colored eye and lip patterns.

Soft pink, peach and color tones have already stolen the hearts of Avoid cold undertones that will add some purple tint – what you want is a healthy, glowing and warm look.

Ombre Lips

To create an illusion of fuller lips try mixing two lipsticks into a warm ombre effect. First, pick out a lipstick in any shade that you prefer wearing and then pick a slightly lighter version of the same shade that will be used for the “inner” side of your lips.

Aviendo: Natural Vegan Cosmetics

I had an opportunity to try natural skincare line by Aviendo, the company based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Even though the company has opened not too long, I feel they’re quickly aiming for the leaders position in the natural skincare market since 1. they are local and affordable, 2. natural, 3. firming and refreshing.

Aviendo is a company and a concept which has a goal, as they claim, to “enrich and inspire” promoting health-giving lifestyles. Being passionate for pure and natural products, Aviendo offers a wide variety of skincare products including facial creams, serums, eye care products, body moisturizers and cleansers.

Night face cream

If I had to be honest, I did not hear about the company before I tried the products. After receiving the products, I started following the company and was positively amazed with their positive, inspirational message that they send to users worldwide, yet mainly in Denmark. I liked the clear product description on their page and inspiring posts on their Facebook page, which definitely made me smile. It seems that the company is not only focusing on clean and healthy skincare, but rather on a healthy lifestyle and daily inspiration. Besides, I liked the fact that Aviendo offers a relatively small range of products, which made me sure that they rather focus on skincare and try to improve the level of their offerings instead of offering a wide range of so-so products.

I had a chance to try Aviendo’s extra firming aloe vera day and night face creams. After using both facial creams for about 2 weeks I have noticed that my skin got a healthy glow. Since both products should rather be used together for the best result, I did apply a small amount of day cream in the morning, after having washed my face, and a small amount of a night cream before going to bed. The first impression was great: I did feel the firming effect, skin absorbed the cream very quickly (so I did not have to go sleep with the oily face…) and it had a natural, pleasant smell.

According to Aviendo, creams are supposed to improve the overall structure of the skin creating natural firmness and binding moisture. Since both creams contain aloe vera extract, one should expect the skin to get protected from damage. Even though I actually have 5-6 different facial creams on my shelve in the bathroom, I currently am still using Aviendo. Could be a nice coincidence since I started eating healthy, too, but I have noticed that my small pimples on my cheeks disappeared as well.

+ Natural, pleasant smell

+ Simple packaging

+ Pumps (i.e. easy to use)

+  Great texture

+ Skin absorbs creams really quickly

+ A noticeable glowing effect after the usage

- Pumps would sometimes stop working

- Cream does not get absorbed too quickly if the face is damp

Even though the company is relatively new in the market, it seems that they are doing a good job when it comes to marketing healthy lifestyles and natural skincare products. Copenhagen-Based Qua Organic Skincare Production

Qua Organic follows the philosophy “The beauty without the beast.” Company’s production is certified by Ecocert by the highest level certification ‘Organic’ and it does not consist synthetic ingredients and chemicals that sometimes give fast but in a long run harmful effects.

Every package of Qua products have a sign of NO parabens, glycols, sulphates, silicones, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours, DEA (Diethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine) or PEGS (polyethylene glycol). Production is not tested on animals. The commitment “Yes – to beautiful skin, No – to harmful ingredients” reflects on the company’s attitude towards the natural beauty and effort they are putting to promote organic and healthier way of treating ones skin.

I’ve tried three products by this company, beginning with double phase makeup remover (225 DKK for 150ml), then detox face mask (275,- for 100ml) and finally active moisturizing face cream (335,- for 50ml).

Firstly, double phase makeup remover cleaned my face in fast few touches without having to scrub my eyes till they get sore. The statement on the makeup remover packaging says “When my makeup comes off my smile stays on” and it did. The product contains aloe vera and macadamia oil and gently removes the makeup leftovers without irritating skin. It is necessary to shake the bottle before using the make up remover to activate double phase effect. You’d think it is just a formality what they write on juice bottles or all of the cosmetics but it is not. I’ve noticed that if not shaken the makeup remover gets little bit too oily for my skin. However, it is also better to rinse it once again with lukewarm water and it is also advised on the packaging, if you read thoroughly.

Second product that I’ve tested was the detox face mask that instantly intrigued me. The blood circulation was effected immediately and my skin got the healthy glow. The mask also includes macadamia, jojoba oils, aloe vera and shea butter. It’s consistency is light and it does not cause dry the skin after using. Overall, it was an interesting product to try and even though I’m a bigger fan of homemade face masks I enjoyed using this product.

And finally, the active moisturizing face cream enriched with vitamin E and natural oils. Honestly, I adore that cosmetics companies try not to use artificial additives and fragrances but sometimes you just need a drop of natural grapefruit oil to improve the product. The cream was everything what you would expect from a moisturizing cream, except… the smell. It did irritate me since it slightly reminded me of mushrooms, champignons to be precise. But with the sense of smell it is the same as with sense of taste, everybody has it differently. I’ve asked a few of my friends to try it and tell me whether it annoys them. Some did agree with me, some didn’t. Anyhow, the moisturizing effect was ok and the cream did comfort the skin. As the cream contains shea butter fruit oil, jojoba seed oil and glycerin, you can be sure that your face will be safe to bear the cold of winter if you put a drop on your cheeks before you leave the apartment.

  • Natural ingredients
  • Pleasant texture
  • Funny or witty comments on the packaging (maybe not an advantage but a funny feature indeed)
  • Instant effect of detox face mask

  • Slightly disappointing package design
  • Irritating smell of the facial cream

In a nutshell, I’m not used to spend a lot of money on pre-made face masks but I am left satisfied with Qua detox face mask, so I might purchase it once more. Even though I wouldn’t buy face cream, it leaves the skin soft and smooth. I don’t know which was more effective or the actual products, or the idea that products consist high amount of natural ingredients from organic farming and are healthier. I guess both had some effect. Of course, it is not enough to use natural products on your skin and it is more important to pamper your body from inside eating healthy. And the winter holiday period spent back at my mommy’s with tons of food and traveling might have reduced the effectivity of skin care products and increased my general weight, however the Qua is worth trying.

5 Foods For Better Skin

Summer is coming and we all are thinking “skin”. We all want to flaunt our bodies and especially healthy tanned skin. Kimberly Snyder, a celebrity nutritionist (she’s worked with Drew Barrymore and Kerry Washington) and the author of the just released book, The Beauty Detox Foods, tells us about what foods we should be incorporating in our diets for a brighter, healthier looking complexion.

healthy foods

Pears are packed full of nutrients that promote a healthy glow — copper, potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and vitamins C, E, B and K. “Although pears have a high oxygen radical absorbance capacity, which neutralizes aging free radicals quite efficiently, most of pears’ antioxidants are contained in the skin,” says Snyder. So if you plan on adding pears to your anti-aging regimen, she recommends going organic so that you can eat the skins without the pesticides.

“It is not commonly known that cabbages actually contain about 11 percent more vitamin C than oranges by weight, and vitamin C is the super anti-aging nutrient that helps heal damaged tissues and minimize deep lines,” Snyder says. Another plus — the vegetable is packed with vitamin A, which is helpful in smoothing fine lines.

Turmeric increases circulation, helps keep red blood cells from clumping and promotes their formation. But how does this help our complexion? By “increasing circulation via better blood flow, turmeric helps make the skin more glowing, supple and healthy looking. Cleansed blood also helps prevent acne and skin disorders,” Snyder explains.

Did you know that the answer to a blemish-free complexion is adding foods that support the liver? And lemons do just that! “Lemon aids with digestion by increasing the secretion of bile from the liver, while also acting as a strengthening agent for the liver’s enzymes,” says Snyder. “Any support to the liver, which is our primary detoxifying organ, is going to help clear up acne in the long run.” Think of it as a simple cleanse for clearer skin.

This spicy green (part of the mustard family), helps create glowing skin by cleansing and oxygenating tissues. “When your body has an increased oxygen supply, you have better blood flow and more glowing skin,” Snyder says. Watercress’ combo of vitamins A, C and E also helps in reducing and treating acne and eczema.

8 Simple Methods To Change Your Looks

I bet, when spring comes, all women are craving for some kind of change in their looks. The other day I saw a friend of mine with a completely different haircut. “Oh wow, why?”, couldn’t come up with anything better. “Oh well, you know, spring is here so I needed to change!”, she answered with a smile. If you are not ready for any drastic changes yet want to look a little different, we’ve got a piece of advice how to look different using the tools you probably already have.

1. Don’t use too much powder. Since the weather is getting hotter and hotter, let your skin breath. Try using lots of moisturizers and facial mists instead and avoid powder as much as possible. If you’ve got some blemishes, I’d rather advice using a special pencil to hide pimples and blemishes instead of putting powder on the whole face.

2. No more boring hair! Try a chic messy bun. If your hair can be described as “long and boring”, make a messy bun and put a nice bow or some kind of bun decoration on top. Simple, comfy, classy and stylish!

3. Try using colorful eyeliners. If you don’t want anything too cheeky, try using silver or brown colors. Also, don’t only make one line, but try something new, such as a double line, half-line or straight line.

4. Try using two different mascara’s at once. It is a perfect choice for a dramatic eye look. If you are courageous enough, try colorful mascara on top of black mascara.

5. Start using white eyeshadow. White eyeshadow will make your eyes look larger and fresh. Simply put a little on top of your eyelid and spread all over the eyelid.

6. Spring and summer must be the best time to try new hair products. Choose the one that fits your hair type best. If you have tiny hair, try hair foam that will make your hair look big and fluffy. If you are gifted and have naturally big hair, try different sprays and gels. It’ll make your hair glow.

7. Since we soon are going to start wearing sunglasses, you should realize that the whole accent of your make up should be lips. Try using different shades of lipsticks and lipglosses until you find your 2-3 favorite ones.

8. Fresh springish looks would always include soft curls. Since spring and summer is all about being natural, you might one to try an old-fashioned method to get curls. It will not even damage your hair! Cut some fabric into strips and roll the hair up. Sleep in the rags overnight and – voila – you will have amazing loose curls!

Stretch Your Beauty Budget

Beauty products can get really expensive. Especially since we, women, generally use a number of products for various purposes and after all it turns out to be quite a shocking amount of money that we spend for skincare, hair care and make up products. If you happen to be in search for new ways on how to save on beauty products that you need, it could be a good idea to know a few simple rules that will help you to save lots of money in a long term.

Quality over quantity

I know, many of you would contradict me that they would prefer to have more products rather than something really expensive, and I would totally understand this womanly need of “the more the better”. Yet one thing to know: if you buy good quality products (which generally are a little more expensive), they tend to last longer. It is better to purchase a little more expensive, yet better nailpolish rather than 3 or 4 cheaper ones simply because a better quality nailpolish would last much longer. And if you think that a cheap one would last only 2 or 3 days and you would have to get a cotton pad and a nailpolish remover, remove your make up, apply a new one and do it all over again after a couple of days… No way. A quality product wins in such case – a good nailpolish will last over a week!

If you happen to be lucky and catch a good product during sales, be sure you get something that you need or might need soon. If you know that your mascara, for example, is about to end relatively soon, grab another one if it’s on sale: you will be able to save some money in a long term (even though you might spend a little more than you expected now).

Since sustainability issue has become extremely popular and it’s become fashionable to be eco-friendly, make sure you do your job: in case you have some products that you don’t need, share them with your friends. And encourage your girlfriends to do the same!
